last night shaun and i walked in the brisk cold evening to the grand canyon mall to buy stretchy balloons to make animals out of. shaun's a juggler and a ballooner, and he can bedazzle anyone shorter than his knees, so he's been asked to perform for the kids at tonight's Ayyam-i-Ha party. i get to tag along, hopefully helping with cupcake decorating. it feels so good to walk in the winter's evening. i wish i'd taken my camera though, because i think according to the outfits gadding about, the israeli version of Halloween is coming up. i mean i hope that's why.
upon a return home, i did the dishes and shaun made oatmeal biscuits! with cranberries, sunflower seeds, almonds, honey and chocolate chips. our little flat smelled like all homes during winter nights should. yesterday morning shaun made instant oatmeal, which was truly and colossally awful. he offered me a spoonful, which i licked gingerly, and then briefly considered aborting my plans for living through the rest of the day. a day that begins with slimy, salty, pale concrete is not an auspicious day according to feng shui. or it should be.
but since oatmeal is a slow-releasing source of energy, these YUMMY biscuits are perfect for breakfast during the Fast, which starts oh uhm on friday! our last Fast in the Holy Land. and then, we're pretty much off!
the pictures are taken with artificial light only, but you get the idea. i can't even believe how good they are.

Yes, what is that holiday ... I believe it starts with a P and it is the only time when they have those lovely cookies in the stores. Mmmmm.

Those cookies look heavenly! :o)
yummmmylicious!!!!
I'm with you about the slimy, salty concrete taste of instant oatmeal. No good day starts that way.
The cookies look delicious- I would love the recipe!
Also, what portion of the day do you fast? Is it like Ramadan, from sunrise to sunset?

fred & I are visiting Tennessee...drove by Knoxville and thought of how awesome Dolly Parton is. I just learned about this initiative she began: http://www.dollysimaginationlibrary.com/howworks.php. She found out that some children had NO books in their homes - when told by teachers to bring their favourite book to school some children would reportedly bring in the yellow pages. the only 'book' in their home. so sad.
go dolly go.
much love,

for some reason just had to chime in about the oatmeal because I am also so averse to oatmeal how it is usually cooked. i had my oatmeal this morning for the first breakfast of the fast. I get some milk in a pot on the stove and then add in original quaker oats and raisins, pecan nuts, dried coconut pieces etc... when milk begins boiling it is done as far as i am concerned and my oatmeal must be soupy... it is oatmeal soup really but the oatmeal is very chewey... it is just so yummy :)
just had to say something as it is a subject i feel very strongly about! :)
